School Profile

A Brief Snapshot of Our School...

Brea Country Hills Elementary School is a school that is characterized by high expectations from both school staff and parents for students’ achievement in academics and behavior. The Country Hills’ staff is committed to providing all children with the opportunity to acquire and apply basic skills and knowledge, to think critically, and to develop self-esteem and respect for themselves and others. It is our goal that students progress in all academic areas and that they are well prepared to be contributing citizens of society.

The school community is approximately a three-mile square area made up of single-family residences, condominiums, and apartment complexes. The actual school facility is conveniently located adjacent to a park, which through a joint use agreement with the City of Brea enables Country Hills to use park fields as playgrounds.

Our school houses 21 classrooms, including 2 special education classes. Current student enrollment at Country Hills is approximately 575 students. The large auditorium is designed to be a true multi-purpose room and is used as a hub for countless activities including instruction and performances. When the school opened its doors in 1981 the goal was to provide a curriculum rich enough to challenge the most gifted students and varied enough to provide rich, meaningful experiences for all students. The staff pledged at that time and continues to keep our instructional practices and standards open-ended and to seek professional development to effectively meet the needs of our students.

Teachers at Brea Country Hills are committed to providing the children with a powerful, standards-based education. Using a variety of instructional strategies, students will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery of our educational standards. This will allow students in third through sixth grade the opportunity to have optimal performance on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) tests which are administered every spring.

A variety of programs to educate the whole child enrich the core curriculum. Fine Arts is emphasized through Beginning and Advanced Band, Art Masters Art Program, Stagelight Music Program, as well as a variety of cultural and performing arts assemblies. Additional opportunities in science and health occur through participation a variety of enriching activities including but not limited to Inside the Outdoors and The Dairy Council nutrition program. We are happy to sponsor a wide variety of after school classes throughout the year, including robotics, computer science, fitness, chorus, chess, performing arts, and tennis. Student Council allows upper-grade students the opportunity to learn and provide leadership to our students. Student Success Team, Stop and Think Groups, and our cross-age tutoring program, along with our daily emphasis on RESPECT, OWNERSHIP, ACHIEVEMENT and RESPONSIBILITY and the 40 Developmental Assets help keep all students connected to the school and responsible for their learning and their actions. Country Hills is proud to implement Project Wisdom. Project Wisdom is one of the oldest and most respected character education programs in the nation. This proven program is currently licensed in over 15,000 schools nationwide. The centerpiece of the program is a collection of thought provoking messages designed to be read over the PA system every day following our morning flag salute. These messages inspire and teach. They take less than one minute a day to broadcast and they reach every student and every staff member every day.

The success of Country Hills School is mainly due to the dedication of parents and teachers to work together for the success of the students. The combination of outstanding home-school communication and the parents to provide countless volunteer hours to assist teachers in providing quality programs is definitely a winning combination for all. The entire staff feels confident that when students leave Country Hills they carry with them the tools and life skills needed to be successful academically in their future educational experience and in their personal life.
